Record

⏱ 3 minutesMobile appBeginner

By the end you have recorded and published a video from your phone.

Pick what to record

Tap the red Record button in the library. Three choices:

  • Camera

You, with the front or back camera.

  • Screen

Everything on your phone's screen, with your voice.

  • Camera + screen

Your screen, with you in a round bubble you can move.

Camera

  1. Tap Camera and allow the camera and microphone.
  2. Tap the big round button to start. Tap ⏸ to pause, and the switch button (top right) to change camera, even while recording.
  3. Tap the button again to stop.

Screen, or camera + screen

  1. Tap Screen or Camera + screen.
  2. For Camera + screen, the first time, Android asks to let Vistilla display over other apps: turn it on, come back, tap it again.
  3. Android asks to share your screen: tap Share screen. Vistilla steps aside: go to the app you want to show.
  4. In Camera + screen, drag your bubble anywhere; tap it to switch camera.
  5. When done, pull down the notification bar and tap Stop, or come back to Vistilla and tap Stop recording.

Blur private areas

  1. Turn on Blur private areas, then tap Screen or Camera + screen.
  2. Recording waits. Go to the app you want to show: a frosted box is there, and a small dock on the edge of the screen.
  3. Drag the box over what must stay private. Drag its round corner to resize it, tap ✕ to remove it, tap + on the dock to add another.
  4. Tap ● Start on the dock. Recording begins.
  5. While recording, the boxes are locked: you can tap and scroll the app underneath. Need to move one? Tap ✎ on the dock, move it, tap ✓.
  6. Tap ■ on the dock to stop.

Check once

The boxes are near-opaque frosted glass, so nothing under them should show. Still, make a short test recording and watch it back before recording something private.

Publish

  1. Your recording plays back. Give it a title.
  2. Tap Publish. It uploads in the background; its card in the library shows how far it has got.

Nothing is lost

A stopped screen recording waits for you until you publish or discard it, even if Android closes the app in between.
